L.A. attorney Jon Colman of Colman Law Group is frequently consulted on thwarting insurance fraud, from bogus homeowners claims to staged auto accidents. He spoke at the 2015 Claims and Litigation Management Conference in Palm Desert in March.
One of an expert panel teaching industry professionals how to battle property insurance fraud, Jon pointed out ways to recognize inflated or false claims for temporary housing and living expenses.
The Coalition Against Insurance Fraud states that fraudulent insurance claims are a large and still growing problem, amounting to more than $80 billion in losses per year. “A 2013 study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau ranked homeowners insurance number two, after personal auto claims, as generating the most claims with at least one marker for possible fraud,” says Jon. “I see significant opportunity for insurance carriers to tighten up in this area, once they know what to look for.”
He invites claims professionals and investigators to contact him, either to schedule a seminar tailored to their organization or for an evaluation of a specific case.
