Michael G. Hogan
Attorney (Retired)
Michael G. Hogan joined the Colman Perkins Law Group as senior counsel in March 2020. He brings the firm more than 35 years of concentrated expertise in defending vehicle and pedestrian accidents.
In addition to his litigation cases, Mike has handled literally thousands of examinations under oath on almost every conceivable type of claim.
Of his more than 100 jury trials, the vast majority were fraudulent motor vehicle and pedestrian accident claims. His experience includes proceedings such as:
- staged and set-up accidents
- swoop and squats
- stuffed passengers
- switched drivers
- fraudulent pedestrian claims
- illegally owned and/or operated medical clinics
- fraudulent medical care
Mike has also successfully defended many uninsured motorist arbitrations, from phantom hit-and-run claims and staged accidents to stuffed passenger and switched driver cases.
In recognition of his achievements, in 2011 Mike was named SIU Attorney of the Year by the Southern California chapter of the International Association of Special Investigation Units.
A long career in SIU
Prior to joining Colman Perkins, Mike spent several years on the in-house legal staff of a major Los Angeles based insurance carrier, handling the defense of SIU cases. A long-running theme in his career, he ran his own firm for 16 years, also specializing in defending SIU cases. Before going out on his own, Mike was a founding partner of Ely, Fritz, Hogan and Dipinto, where in the 1980s and ‘90s he handled the same types of cases for numerous automobile insurance carriers.
Earlier, as an associate at Los Angeles-based Grace, Neumeyer & Otto, Mike had the opportunity to try jury trials. He ultimately made partner while developing his concentration in defending suspected fraudulent automobile and pedestrian accident claims.
Inside the auto industry
Previously Mike held positions on the legal staff at both General Motors Corporation in Detroit and Toyota Motor Sales USA in Torrance, overseeing and coordinating the defense of product liability cases.
He is admitted to practice in California and an inactive member of the Iowa State Bar and State Bar of Michigan. Mike also is admitted to practice before the United States District Court of California (Central District), United States Court of Appeals (Ninth Circuit) and the United States Supreme Court.
A licensed pilot, Mike is a former member of the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association.
