Douglas M. Carasso is an AV-rated senior associate with Colman Law Group, working out of its Irvine office. Doug’s practice focuses on insurance coverage analysis and the defense of insureds in litigation based on motor vehicle negligence, construction defect, defamation, premises liability and other civil actions.
Before joining the firm, Doug spent more than a decade handling insurance coverage and defense and 10+ years litigating on behalf of plaintiffs, including at Shernoff Bidart Echeverria & Bentley. His areas of practice have also included business litigation, labor and employment, insurance bad faith, automotive product defect, class actions and mass torts.
Solid trial experience
As a litigator, Doug’s trial experience has included obtaining six-figure jury verdicts in insurance bad faith and personal injury actions. He also has extensive law-and-motion experience, and he has fully briefed numerous appeals and orally argued before the Second Appellate District and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal.
As defense counsel, Doug dramatically reduces the value of plaintiffs’ cases. Recently his analysis, trial preparation, and negotiation skills resulted in a settlement of less than 8% of the demand. Although liability was admitted and the pre-surgical plaintiff asked for $1 million at the mandatory settlement conference, the matter was settled on the eve of trial for $75,000.
Doug is honored to have been recognized by OC Metro Magazine as one of the top lawyers in Orange County and to be rated 10.0 Superb by the Avvo Attorney Rating Service.
A featured speaker at many legal education venues, Doug covers a diverse lineup of California litigation topics. His areas of expertise include legal writing, insurance law, tort law, unfair business practices and depositions. He has also authored various articles on topics including tort law, punitive damages, insurance law, automobile liability, motions for summary judgment, HMO liability, depositions and MICRA. These articles have been featured in publications including the Los Angeles Daily Journal, New York Law Journal, Orange County Lawyer, and The Advocate Magazine.
Doug obtained his undergraduate degree in classics from UCLA, graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law. Doug is licensed to practice in all courts of the State of California and in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
